Description
Forty-Six Large Maps and Breathtaking Panoramic
Illustrations of the Grand Cañon and Yellowstone Park
Two United States Geological Survey Atlases. Elephant folios
printed by Julius Bien and Company for the Department of the
Interior in Washington, in publisher's cloth with gilt titles and
crossed hammer and pick designs to front boards. Included is:
Capt. Clarence E. Dutton. Atlas to Accompany the
Tertiary History of the Grand Cañon District. 1882. Eleven
double page color maps, one black and white; and ten double page
panoramic color illustrations by William H. Holmes and Thomas
Moran. 23 leaves. Boards rubbed, scratched and lightly soiled,
corners bumped and rubbed, edges bumped and chipped, tears to
spine, spine repaired, hinges re-enforced; tape repair on verso of
front free endpaper, blank page facing title page folded diagonally
with slight fold separation, light edge wear with small paper chips
to front free endpaper, blank facing title page, Sheet XXIII, and
following blank pages; two small paper lifts in lower image area of
Sheet XVI, minor fold separations to Sheet XVIII; overall few small
edge tears, occasional smudges, else internally very good.
[Together With]: Arnold Hague. Atlas to
Accompany Monograph XXXII on the Geology of the Yellowstone
National Park. 1904. Seventeen full page and seven full
double page color maps. 27 leaves. Boards rubbed, scratched and
soiled, corners bumped and rubbed, small tears to spine with
surface loss; previous owner's ink holograph name and bookplate
stain on front pastedown with ink off-set to front free endpaper;
small edge tears to title page, lower right corner bends to last
two blank pages, small tear to rear free endpaper; light browning
to margins, and occasional smudges. Otherwise two volumes of very
good beautiful plates in solid, but worn bindings.
