Louis Jacques Mande Daguerre. Historique et Description des Procedes du Daguerreotype et du Diorama. Nouvelle Edition. Paris: Alphonse Giroux, 1839. Octavo. [4], 1-76 pages. Complete, with frontispiece and six plates. Original paper wrappers. Soiling and staining to wrappers, reinforced with pastedowns, spine rebacked and re-adhered to textblock with lower cover reattached, water damage evident at fore-edge corners and bottom edge, foxing and staining throughout, mainly in margins, more heavily in front and rear few leaves, first gathering slightly detached at head, paper reinforcement on first page of text, some tearing to gutter of pp. 7-10. Housed in clamshell box of half green levant morocco over marbled boards with title in gilt on front. Good.Rare copy of the Giroux edition of Daguerre's description of his novel photographic process. Eight editions were printed by Giroux, with numerous others (more common) printed by secondary publisher Susse Freres. This is the first edition to include Grevedon's portrait of Daguerre, and includes a copy of the act of June 15, 1839 at the end which granted pensions to Daguerre and Niepce.
