Description
George Armstrong Custer: Rare Carte de Visite. Custer stands at-the-ready in this rare CDV taken by Mathew Brady on or about February 15, 1864. It is shown in Mark Katz's standard reference book, Custer in Photographs, and assigned #K-31. Katz says his illustration is "From the unique, original, unpublished carte de visite in the author's collection." This second example is quite nice, save for a small brown spot near the bottom and slight fuzziness along the left side, possibly a minor flaw in the printing process. It is untrimmed with sharp corners.Auction Info
