Description
Half-Plate Daguerreotype of George Talcott, circa 1847. 4.5" x 5.75". Talcott, in a portrait shot by photographer Mathew Brady, is seen in partial profile, wearing a double breasted army coat with large gold U.S. ordnance buttons and thick collar. Mounted in a leatherette case with clasps and lined with red velvet. Mathew Brady's logo is imprinted into the fabric while the case itself has moderate scuffing.Talcott (1786-1862) enlisted in the United States Army during the War of 1812 and served as a brigadier general during the Mexican War. As the head of the Ordnance Department, Talcott inspected and approved all weapons, including the famous Walker Colt.
