Description

Civil War: Three Cartoons Depict Union Resolve Against the South. Three cartoons illustrate the confidence of a Union victory. A small 9.25" x 12" cartoon created early in the Civil War demonstrates that the Union would not fall to the South. The donkey, South Carolina, cannot pull down the Union symbolized as a sturdy post held firmly in the ground. Another small 9" x 12" hand-colored print titled "The First of May 1865 or Genl Moving Day In Richmond VA." pokes fun at Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee, who are depicted leaving Richmond after the defeat of the Confederacy. The largest print, sized 13.5" x 17", titled "The Old General Ready for a "Movement."" shows Union commander Winfield Scott sitting on a mound holding a noose and waiting for Jefferson Davis to move out of his "Richmond" burrow.

Condition: Minor edge wear to the smaller prints, otherwise all are fine to extra fine condition.
