Civil War Photographer Alexander Gardner: Provost Marshal's Office, Aquia Creek (No. 46). PROVOST MARSHAL'S OFFICE, AQUIA CREEK (No. 46). Timothy O'Sullivan captured this interesting image of the men that flowed around the Provost Marshal's building at the Union Army's base of supply at Aquia Creek. Among the crowd are soldiers seeking passes, officers going home on leave, enlistees with hard-earned furloughs, Contrabands seeking passage to Washington D.C., sutlers, clerks, traders and more. Mount measures 12 1/2 x 10 1/2". Dated 1865 and noted "Negative by T. H. O'Sullivan" and "Positive by A. Gardner..." with the date taken: "February, 1863."

Condition: Toning and age to the mount, albumen lifting at left bottom edge, nick at right top edge of albumen. Image has great detail and clarity.
