Description

John C. Frémont: Anti-Buchanan Cartoon. Medium folio lithograph 13.25" x 18.5", published by Childs of Philadelphia in 1856, titled "Shall I Vote For Ten Cents A Day?" It shows Buchanan addressing a crowd of supporters, promising the 10-cents a day plan, while Fillmore and Frémont reach an understanding that, if one of them doesn't win the election, the other one should. The topic of the cartoon refers to a statement Buchanan made around 1812, while a member of the Federalist Party, that 10-cents a day were sufficient wages for the working man.
