Description

Temperance Movement: Uncle Sam Redware Flask. 8" figural flask with Rockingham-style glaze, depicting a portly figure astride a whisky barrel, incised at the base "Uncle Sam Maine Law". It refers to the ban of alcoholic beverages that was enacted in Maine in 1851 by Governor Neal Dow, only to be repealed in 1856. Apparently a rare piece.
