Description

[Theodore Roosevelt]: Original Clifford Berryman Artwork of Teddy Bear. Postal cover, postmarked from Washington, D.C. during an election year (August 2, 1904), with ink drawing of the original Teddy Bear with the Capitol in the distance. Addressed by the artist to a young lady in Cavendish, Vermont. According to the accompanying Letter of Provenance, Berryman made the drawing at the request of Miss Gould's father as a present to her. The sketch is signed "Berryman".
