Description

Civil War: Pennsylvania Draft Broadside and Associated Ephemera. 10.5" x 17.25" broadside, Scranton, Pennsylvania, July 16, 1864, titled "A Draft For Deficiencies In the 12th District, Pa." Those localities who couldn't meet their quota for enlistees were forced to make up the difference through the means of a draft. The broadside concludes: "One hundred per cent will be drawn in addition to the actual quotas, and if this is not sufficient to cover exemptions, another draft will be made immediately." Sold together with a small booklet titled "Instructions For the Use of Enrolling Officers of the Twelfth Congressional District, Pennsylvania" and a transmittal envelope from the Provost Marshal in Scranton, postmarked July 18th. Normal folds. A fine group.
