Description
Woman's Suffrage: Group of Nine Different Suffrage Buttons. Some of these wonderful pinbacks are deceptively scarce so this lot certainly deserves a close look. (1) Diminutive at 1/2" with vertical purple white and green stripes inscribed "Votes For Women," is a very scarce pinback from the Women's Political Union (WPU) but missing the backpaper identifying it as such. (2) Another scarce 7/8" button also in purple and green with white printing is from the "Connecticut Women's Suffrage Association" complete with back paper. (3) The 1 1/4" black printing on yellow "Vote For Woman Suffrage Nov. 6th" was issued in New York in 1917 and is missing the back paper. (4) A rare pin produced for New York is the 1915 "Vote For Woman Suffrage November 2nd," has no back paper. (5) The green bordered 7/8" "Vote Yes" pinback has the back paper for the "Women's Political Union" and is much scarcer in the green "Vote Yes" design than in the usually seen red "Vote No" version. (6) The 1 1/4" Votes For Women on remnants of a yellow fabric rosette has the most unusual and attractive font style we can recall seeing. The back paper reads, "Nadel and Shimmel Novelties, New York City." (7) Another rarity worth noting is the 5/8" "Woman Suffrage Vote Yes October 19th" button. It has an Ehrman back paper from New Hampshire. (8) The only pin with a condition issue which requires mention is the printing on the 7/8" button with purple border and central white area. The badly faded print reads, "Votes For Women" which is distinguishable upon close examination. It too is a scarce issue and is from the Connecticut Women's Suffrage Association as stated on its back paper. (9) Rounding out the group is the colorful 7/8" "Votes for Women 1915" sunrise pinback complete with back paper.Auction Info
