Description

Early Circa 1832 Cartoon Print Referencing the US Bank. This untitled 18.375" x 13.25" cartoon features a gentleman resembling James Watson Webb losing control of his phaeton bearing a "Courier and Enquirer" plaque. Horses with collars referencing Nicholas Biddle and Silas Enoch Burrows flee down the rocky path labeled with the direction "To the Dismal Swamp." A group of men holding a "Veto" sign gleefully shoot their guns and terrify the horses. Meanwhile, Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren can be seen in the background being drawn by sure-footed horses on a cleared path "To Washington." This cartoon most likely references the controversial banking policies during the 1832 campaign.

Condition: Some toning, staining, and foxing throughout. The edges are trimmed, and a few minor tears can be seen at the edges and top right corner. The cartoon remains bold and provides a nice action-packed scene.
