Confederate Blockade Runner Stock Certificate.
5" x 9.25" certificate for one share in the "Charleston Importing and Exporting Company". Charleston, April 14, 1864. Shares valued at $1,000 apiece. Made out to M. P. O'Conner and signed by the President and Treasurer of the enterprise. This company started by Henry Cobia was one of the most prominent in Charleston during the war. The central woodcut of the blockade-running paddle-wheel steamship is an attractive element.
