Civil War: Grant and Spotsylvania Court House Newspaper Extra. 6.5" x 9" "Sentinel Extra. Wednesday, May 25, 1864 --- 4 O'clock." Nice woodcut of civilian trumpeting the news of the day. Reports include news of Grant defeating Robert E. Lee and pursuing him towards Richmond, as well as battle reports for Arkansas. Of special note is a recent dispatch sent by Grant to the editor of the Lafayette [Indiana] Journal, declaring "I propose to fight it out on this line if it takes all summer." This refers to the Battle of the Wilderness, the first phase in Grant's Overland Campaign.

Condition: Faint staining along right side, two minor archival tape repairs on verso.
