Description

William Jennings Bryan: One of the Most Sought-after "Cartoon Button" Rarities With Whitehead & Hoag Back Paper. This wonderful design tells quite a story! Bryan is handing a copy of the U.S. Constitution to Uncle Sam, who seeks to plant the flag on "Puerto Rico." "The Constitution shall follow the flag," declares Bryan earnestly. Meanwhile the (imperialist) McKinley, wearing a crown, is being devoured by a monster labeled "Trusts." All this on a 1¼" button! For strictest accuracy, we note that the surface is ever so slightly uneven, as made. The button is perfectly centered and has deep sepia color. Celluloids of this era are so hard to find in perfectly flawless condition, and this could well be the finest example known! From the Collection of Sam and Jeff Pressman.
