Description

Abraham Lincoln: "Order of Funeral Procession" in Springfield, Illinois Broadside. Elements of the procession included a military funeral escort; Lincoln's surgeons and physicians; Freemasons, Oddfellows, and other fraternities; firefighters, and more. This broadside is graphically pleasing and measures a nice 8.25" x 11.5". Note the text at the bottom left corner reading "Hearse" is turned vertically to visually show the placement of the guard of honor, pallbearers, and family of the deceased. The broadside is affixed to a paper backing, with multiple clipped newspaper articles adhering to the paper's back. These clippings appear to record the passing of men, women, and children, from a three-year-old girl lost to "Diptheria" to a soldier killed at the battle of Murfreesboro.

Condition: The top of the broadside has the handwritten text: "I was present at the funeral & saw the remains- Harriet-Louise Greene." The paper backing is visible at the bottom edge and top right corner, where the broadside may have been slightly trimmed. Foxing, toning, and light soiling are present. A closed tear is near the bottom right corner, and a spot of loss is visible toward the center of the right edge. The back side has a few handwritten inscriptions, and toned adhesive residue stains are present where the bottom right clipping is adhered to the paper.
