Description

Franklin Pierce: Important "Granite Club No. 1. Boston" Portrait Ribbon. The ribbons of Lewis Cass are often cited as the rarest campaign issues, but those of Pierce and his Whig opponent Winfield Scott surely run close behind. Of course, the "Granite Club" is a reference to the fact that Pierce hailed from New Hampshire-The Granite State. An excellent example, this ribbon is a beautiful champagne color and measures 2 3/8" x 8". Very minor staining is present with few partial creases. Old adhesive residue is visible at the back at top and bottom edges. Overall, this ribbon is in wonderful condition. Pierce campaign items of any kind are elusive, and this is a rare opportunity to acquire an example great for display. No minimum bid. From the J.Doyle Dewitt Collection.
