Description

Daniel Webster: Oval 1852 Daguerreotype Badge. 2.125" x 2.5" daguerreotype of Webster, set within an oval mat and preserver. The back is covered with a red velvet cardboard disc with imbedded silk attachment cords. Matching "For President" badges were made for Pierce and Scott. This particular badge is sometimes seen attached to a silk ribbon inscribed "Welcome! Welcome!! Daniel Webster!", used for a personal appearance of Webster in 1852. Even though Webster died in October of that year, some die-hard voters cast ballots for him in the presidential election. The portrait is sharp and clear. From the collection of Sam and Jeff Pressman.
