Description
George Washington: Oval Jasper Ware Wedgwood Plaque. 4" x 5.25" unglazed porcelain plaque with raised classical bust of Washington against a blue ground. Impressed "Wedgwood" on verso with a series of air holes, as made. Similar to another Washington plaque made by "Wedgwood & Bentley" circa 1777. This example may be a second state or re-issue of the latter; however, the slight curvature of the impressed mark is indicative of an early date of production, possibly during Washington's lifetime.
