Description
Charleston, South Carolina Slave Tag. 1856 servant's hire badge #411. 1 5/8" x 1 1/2". Inscribed: "Charleston/ 411/ Servant/ 1856". Extremely fine and fully legible. Uniform olive brown patina. Some light verdigris and waviness to planchet. Apparently, the punch for "Charleston" was crumbling, evidenced by the merging of some letters with the border.Auction Info
