Description

Abraham Lincoln: Calling for a Meeting of the Cabinet. 5" x 8" engraved form, headed "Department of State", Washington, D.C., February 18, 1863, sent to Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles, inscribed: "Sir: The President desires a meeting of the Heads of Departments at the Executive Mansion at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. [signed] F. W. Seward Asst. Sec'y of State". Discoloration, mounted to thick paper, burn loss on left edge. This is the first such summons we have seen. Sold with an engraved book plate showing the "President and Cabinet".
