Description
Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan the Invincible. Tarzana: Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., [1931].Octavo. Publisher's royal blue cloth stamped in red. Frontispiece by Studley O. Burroughs, Edgar Rice Burroughs' nephew. Studley O. Burroughs also designed the dust jacket; here, the jacket's front panel is glued to the front pastedown, and the rear flap is glued to the rear pastedown. With the bookplate of Ella Oldham Burroughs to the front free endpaper verso.
FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED by the author on the front free endpaper recto to his brother three days before publication: "Dear Harry, I thought you and Nell might like to see this excellent work of Studley's as it appears in my production. Ed, Tarzana, November 17, 1931." Harry, one of ERB's older brothers, and Ella (Nellie, also Nell) were the parents of Studley Oldham Burroughs, the illustrator.
Condition: Spine sunned and with restorations to head of spine affecting the title, other restorations to spine panel, scuffed and with other edgewear and staining. Textblock toned as usual, scattered stains, primarily to fore-edge, a few spots.
