Description

[Abraham Lincoln]: Autographed Note Signed Entirely in the Hand of John Hay. 3 ¼" x 1 ¾" typical "take the oath" Lincoln note, but written by Presidential Secretary John Hay on April 10, 1865, just four days prior to Lincoln's assassination. It reads: "Let him be discharged on taking the oath of Dec. 8, 1863. A. Lincoln". A countless number of these notes were produced, so it should come as no surprise that some of them were written by proxy. Acquired by Mr. Dow in 1984 from noted autograph dealer Paul C. Richards.
