Description

Owned by Taylor Himself

Zachary Taylor: Iconic Campaign Poster. 17 1/2" x 12 3/4" lithograph on paper, printed in brown and black, titled "Taylor". An American eagle flies overhead grasping lightning bolts with a sunburst and constellation of stars above the clouds. The letters of the name Taylor are populated with soldiers, fortifications and battle scenes, along with the list of casualties on both sides for six different battles the victorious general participated in. Probably the most graphic of 19th century political posters or prints. What makes this even more remarkable is the line of ownership. It belonged to Zachary Taylor and descended in his family, as documented in an accompanying Letter of Provenance from the consignor, a direct descendent of Taylor. It has recently undergone restoration and is mounted on mulberry paper. There are some folds, creases and areas of minor loss, but they did a fine job and it displays quite nicely.
