Description
Assorted G.A.R. and Civil War Albumen Images.Group which includes original Civil War photographs, later copy images and post-war photographs of military subjects. The most interesting piece is a two-sided cabinet card by Taylor & Huntington from their "War for the Union" series depicting "Burial of the Dead" on one side (taken on December 15, 1862 in Fredericksburg, Va.) and "A Silenced Gun" on the other (taken after the Battle of Yorktown). Other items include an unmounted albumen photo of a misidentified Union general holding the reins of his horse, a silver print real photo postcard of S. Jenkins at Upton Hill, Virginia in 1862, a copy image of a Union cavalryman holding his saber in a studio setting, two images of Civil War veterans and six images of Indian War period soldiers, cadets and militiamen.
