Description

Escutcheon of Union Soldier/Spy/Andersonville Survivor.
18" x 24" chromolithograph escutcheon highlighting the amazing service record of Wright D. Smith, Co. G 1st Michigan Sharp Shooters. Wright fought at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, North Anna and Petersburg, where he was captured and sent to Andersonville. He then "enlisted with 20 others in the 10th Tenn. Confederate Service". This was a covert operation. The "turncoats" gathered valuable intelligence and supplies before deserting and rejoining Union forces at Charleston. This would make a great movie! Edge chips, damp stains and toning. Somewhat brittle, but essentially intact. Copper and gold inks give it "zing!" From the Don Limpert Collection.
