Description
U.S. Springfield Model 1878 Trapdoor Rifle.Serial no. 346627, .45-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear sight, Blued finish. V / P / (eagle head) / P to left side of barrel, with an A inspectors mark to top of barrel. Case-hardened breechblock marked: U.S. / MODEL / 1878. Lock stamped: (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels and stacking swivel. U.S. stamped metal carbine buttplate. Metal cleaning rod.
Condition: Fine. Retaining approximately 85-90% finish with scattered signs of handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scuffs and dings present to wood. Action crisp. Bright bore.
