Four Digit Serial Number.
Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Rifle with Factory
Letter.Serial no. 4647 [lower tang], .44-40 W.C.F. caliber, 24 1/2-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front sight and adjustable rear elevation sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Winchester address and patent dates to top of barrel. Dust cover. Upper tang marked: MODEL 1873. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Crescent metal buttplate with cleaning rod reservoir. Manufactured in 1875. Sold along with factory letter dated October 15, 2009. Letter confirms Type, Barrel and trigger. Also states the rifle was received at warehouse July 21, 1875 and shipped out July 23, 1875. The Winchester 1873 became a staple for Western lawmen, settlers, and outlaws, including famous figures like Buffalo Bill Cody and Pat Garrett.
Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a smooth grey patina with thinning to relief edges, handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scattered dings and scuffs present to wood. Action good. Lightly pitted bore. Cleaning rod absent.
