U.S. Springfield Model 1870 Trapdoor Single Shot Rifle.

Serial no. 48756 [barrel and receiver], .50-70 caliber, 32 1/2-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding sight. Blued receiver. Case-hardened hammer, lock and trigger. Lock marked: 1864, (eagle) and U.S. / SPRINGFIELD. Smooth hardwood stock with sling swivels. Two barrel bands, each stamped: U. Metal cleaning rod. US stamped carbine buttplate.

Condition: Fine. Overall showing light handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action crisp. Bright bore. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
