Description
Engraved Colt Single Action Army Revolver with Pecos Maxie Inscription.Serial no. 348834, 4 3/4-inch barrel, 45 Colt caliber. Nickel-plated finish with steerhead grips, Rampant Colt medallion to left side of grip. Factory style engraving throughout [contemporary]. Top of barrel reads COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Backstrap inscribed PECOS MAXIE. Manufactured in 1926.
Sold together with hang tag from previous auction claiming association to Maxie. Also included is a cabinet card claiming to be Pecos Maxie marked on back; [Pecos Maxie / May 4 1897] along with a historical data sheet marked [HISTORICAL DATA ON PECOS MAXIE / PECOS MAXIE - LAWMAN - SHOWMAN], claiming to have been born in El Paso, Texas in 1875. Fought in the Spanish American War and was a Deputy Sheriff in Pecos, Texas after the war; Including a brief stint as a Texas Ranger for six months. Also mentioning appearances in Buffalo Bill's Wild West, Frank Wirth's Circus and 101 Ranch in Oklahoma. All these attributions have not been verified due to lack of information and research available in reference books and online searches, what has been described came with the gun.
Condition: Fine as configured. Gun has been refinished and engraving is modern. It retains 95% plus finish with minor wear from handling, it has a slight satin finish feel to it. Grips have great aging and form, one-inch repair/crack to right side. Mechanically sound, bore good. Nelson A. Faerber Collection.
