Description
Spacecraft ID plate from Apollo 12's Command Module Yankee Clipper
Apollo 12 Flown Command Module Spacecraft Identification Plate Display Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean, Certified and Signed. A brass plate, 3.25" x 1.75" in size, mounted to a 10" x 5" x 0.75" marble desk set. The brass plate is engraved as follows:SPACECRAFT -108

Note that this was an all-Navy crew, thus the Command Module nickname of "Yankee Clipper." When Rockwell manufactured the Apollo spacecraft, they attached to the interior structure three identical brass identification plates signifying spacecraft number and other key manufacturing information. Upon completion of the mission, it was a tradition for Rockwell to remove these plates during their post-flight inspection of the spacecraft, add the launch date, and present them to the astronaut crewmembers as part of a special-made desk set. This is the flown Rockwell ID plate removed from the Apollo 12 Command Module Yankee Clipper (Spacecraft #8) and presented to Mission Lunar Module Pilot Alan Bean. The Sheaffer 14K gold-nibbed fountain pen and the matching ballpoint pen are included; the right-side penholder is broken at the base- easily repaired or replaced. Captain Bean has written on the base in gold ink: "Flown in lunar orbit aboard 'Yankee Clipper' November 1969 Alan L. Bean Apollo 12 LMP". Excellent.
