Apollo 14 Flown Embroidered Mission Insignia Patch Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. This 4.5" x 4.125" oval mission insignia patch was designed by Jean Beaulieu of the Kennedy Space Center graphics art department. It depicts a NASA Astronaut Pin flying to the moon and was carried aboard the Command Module Kitty Hawk during its nine-day flight, January 31-February 9, 1971. The surnames of the crewmembers, "Shepard Roosa Mitchell" are listed beneath the graphic, with "APOLLO 14" above, all on a gold thread background. Dr. Mitchell has signed on the verso: "Flown/ Edgar Mitchell/ LMP". Excellent condition.

Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Edgar Mitchell" on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This letter is to certify that the accompanying Apollo 14 embroidered crew patch was carried into lunar orbit aboard the spacecraft Kittyhawk in my personal preference kit (PPK) during the Apollo 14 mission to the moon... The Apollo 14 crew of Captain Alan Shepard, Mission Commander, Lt. Col. Stuart Roosa, Command Module pilot, and myself as Lunar Module Pilot, flew the third landing mission to the moon, with the objective of conducting the first surface investigations of the lunar geology..."
