Spencer Repeating Arms Saddle Ring Carbine.

Serial no. 17174, .54 caliber, 22-inch barrel with fixed front sight and rear folding ladder sight. Blued and case-hardened finish. Saddle ring. Smooth walnut straight stock and fore-end. Sling swivel. Metal buttplate. Together with photocopy of Civil War Weapons Search stating this Spencer Carbine #17174 was a "Range Match" to Civil War Regiments; 12th Illinois Vol. Cavalry / March 1864 and 11th Michigan Vol. Cavalry / Aug. 1864. According to their records definition, "a Range Match indicates that the weapon's serial number is within the serial number range of identical weapons issued to the CW Regiment (s) listed. Therefore, a probability exits that the piece was issued to a soldier in the regiment (s) listed.

Condition: Good. Finish primarily a dark grey patina with scattered signs of handling wear and patches of pitting. Dings, scuffs and bruising present to wood. Action good. Moderately pitted bore.
