"We came in peace for all mankind"
Apollo 11 Lunar Plaque Signed by Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. A high quality 9.25" x 8" metal reproduction of the plaque Apollo 11 left on the moon, mounted to a 10.5" x 13" x 0.625" wooden plaque. The original was attached to the ladder on the descent stage of the Apollo 11 Lunar Module Eagle. It reads: "HERE MEN FROM THE PLANET EARTH/ FIRST SET FOOT UPON THE MOON/ JULY 1969, A.D./ WE CAME IN PEACE FOR ALL MANKIND". Beneath are facsimile signatures of crewmembers Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collins, as well as President Nixon. The final phrase comes from the 1958 National Aeronautics and Space Act's "declaration of policy and purpose" that states that "...activities in space should be devoted to peaceful purposes for the benefit of all mankind." This particular plaque has been signed authentically: "Buzz Aldrin" and "Michael Collins". Excellent condition.Included with this lot is a Certificate of Authenticity from Novaspace signed by Kim Poor stating, in part: "I certify that this item was signed in my presence by NASA astronaut Michael Collins."
