Description
Apollo 14 Flown Larger-Size American Flag Directly from the Personal Collection of Mission Lunar Module Pilot Edgar Mitchell, Signed and Certified, with Signed LOA. A larger-size 11.25" x 8" cloth U.S. flag that flew to the moon on Apollo 14 with crewmembers Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell, remaining on the Command Module Kitty Hawk in lunar orbit. Dr. Mitchell has signed this flag on the lower two white stripes: "Flown to the moon aboard Apollo 14/ Edgar Mitchell". This size is very desirable due to increased rarity and superb display presence. Excellent condition with only one vertical fold at left side.Included with this lot is a letter of authenticity signed "Edgar Mitchell" on his personal letterhead, stating (in part): "This letter certifies that the accompanying 8" x 11" USA flag was carried in my personal preference kit (PPK) from January 31 to February 9, 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission... Ours was the first Apollo mission devoted primarily to scientific exploration of the moon, rather than tests of the operational flight procedures necessary for successful missions..."
