Description
U.S. Martially Marked Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver.Serial no. 9133 [barrel, frame, triggerguard and butt] and 9133 [cylinder], .44 caliber, 8-inch barrel with fixed front sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Case-hardened frame, hammer and loading lever. COLTS / PATENT stamped to left side of frame. Other visible sub-inspector markings include; 2 stamp on left side of triggerguard, H / T on cylinder, H above wedge and G under barrel. Cylinder scene present. Brass triggerguard. Smooth walnut one-piece grip with cartouche on left side. Butt cut for shoulder stock. Manufactured in 1861. Four screw variation.
The Model 1860 Army was the successor to the Third Model Dragoon and ranks third in the total number produced among the various models of percussion Colt handguns. It became the primary revolver used by U.S. troops during the Civil War.
Condition: Very good, traces of bluing present, but gun is mostly a dark grey patina with areas of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Moderate wear, peppering to backstrap. Frontstrap brass has a great mellow tone. Few scuffs and dings present to wood. Light but visible cartouche. Action good. Lightly pitted bore, but strong rifling present.
