Description

Colt Baby Dragoon Pocket Revolver.
Serial no. 4902, .31 caliber, 4-inch octagonal barrel with 2-line New York address (muzzle to breech) with bracket finials. Ranger and Comanche scene on cylinder. All serial numbers match except for wedge (1216). None observed on arbor pin. Inspector's initial K next to serial no. on triggerguard. Brass straps and squared triggerguard. The slot for the trigger is rounded at the front which is correct for early models such as this. Varnished walnut grips. Manufactured 1848, the first full year of production for this rare model.

Condition: Very good. All metal surfaces are generally very smooth. Barrel, cylinder and frame now with a thin, mottled brown-gray patina. Scattered patches of very fine pitting. Usual marks around wedge and hammer screw. Frame and hammer screws are possible replacements. Brass with a nice age patina, scattered dents and traces of silver oxide mainly near triggerguard. Guard and strap screws showing some tool marks. Grips are fine with approximately 60-70% original varnish and many scattered dents. Hairline crack to left grip panel. Action is good but slightly out of time.
