Description
U.S. Colt Model 1861 Special Musket with Bayonet.Unserialized, .58 caliber, 40-inch barrel with fixed front sight and folding rear sight. 1864, V / P/ (eagle head) and M.L.H. STEEL stamped to top of barrel. D to upper tang. Lock marked: 1864 and (eagle) / U.S. / COLT'S PT. F A MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT. Smooth walnut straight stock with sling swivels. Three barrel bands, each stamped: U. Two cartouches to left side of stock. Tulip head metal ramrod. Metal carbine buttplate marked: US / H. 18-inch US socket bayonet.
Condition: excellent. Overall showing light handling wear and very fine patches of pitting. Scattered scuffs and dings present to wood. Action crisp. Mirror bright bore. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
