Antique American Clip Point Bowie Knife by Rose, New York.

Bowie knife by Peter Rose of New York City, marked on ricasso ROSE / NEW YORK [partially visible]. 8-inch clip point blade with sharpened false edge, 12 1/2-inches overall. Flat German silver crossguard of ovoid form with ball finials. Plain German silver ferrule. One-piece natural antique grip with vacant rectangular escutcheon. Clamshell pattern German silver pommel cap with peened end. With associated scabbard, not original to knife. Circa 1830s-1845.
Please note: Peter Rose was a New York surgical instrument maker whose work has established him as one of the premier 19th century American bowie knife makers in the eyes of today's collectors.

Condition: Good to very good. Blade with some sharpening, has been cleaned and shows moderate pitting. Tip missing. Some discoloration to handle, a few significant stress cracks present. Furniture with wear/toning. Sheath in poor condition. Collection of a Southern Gentleman.
