Description

[Civil War] Sixth Plate Ambrotype of an Unknown Rebel Soldier Holding a Bowie Knife.

When open, the attractive split leather case reveals a salmon-colored velvet fabric padding and a portrait of a soldier gripping a large Bowie knife. The ornate case measures 3 1/4" x 3 3/4" and features a curved windmill pattern at the center of the case on both sides. Separated down the spine, there are a few frayed threads and some loss and wear to the leather, particularly at the corners. Light scratching is present on the glass. The portrait is in lovely condition with nice clarity, the blade particularly standing out against the subject's darker clothing. Overall, this ambrotype is in great condition. The B.G. Chip Newman Collection
