Civil War Non-Regulation Staff and Field Officers' Sword Presented to Lieutenant Joseph R. Keen [Keene], 11th Maryland Infantry.

32-inch slightly curved bright blade etched with simple foliate and patriotic designs. Reverse ricasso with the Clauberg maker mark and etched "IRON PROOF" on the back of the blade. Gilded-brass hilt, wire-wrapped fish skin grip. Metal scabbard with gilded-brass mounts and drag. Upper reverse mount engraved: "Presented to / LIEUt. JOSEPH R. KEEN by the Non Commissioned / Officers & Privates of Co. A 11th Md Infantry July 4th."

Joseph R. Keen (spelled Keene in the Civil War database) enlisted on June 1, 1864 as a 1st Lieutenant and commissioned into Company A of the Maryland 11th Infantry. He mustered out on October 1, 1864.

Condition: Blade bright with some areas of dark pitting near the tip. Light to moderate surface dents and dings on the scabbard. Very good condition.
