Description
Colt Single Action Army Frontier Six Shooter Revolver with Leather Rig and Factory Letter.Serial no. 227190 [frame, triggerguard and butt], .44-40 caliber, 4 3/4-inch barrel with fixed front sight and frame notch rear sight. Blued finish. Top of barrel marked: COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. Left side of barrel stamped: COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER. Two-line, three-date patent and Rampant Colt to left side of frame. Checkered factory hard-rubber grip panels with embossed Rampant Colt logos. Manufactured in 1902. Contained in leather rig marked: 38 / MEXICO / C44 (waist, county and caliber). Sold along with factory letter dated February 26, 2007. Letter confirms serial number, caliber, barrel length and finish. Also states the revolver was shipped to Bering Cortes Hardware Company, in Houston, Tx, on June 10, 1902. The Bering-Cortes Hardware Company was established around 1885 in Houston, Texas, by Julius C. Bering (1864-1935) and H.W. Cortes. The company offered a wide range of products, including electrical and automotive supplies, firearms, sporting goods, agricultural tools, stoves, and cutlery.
Condition: Good as cleaned. Finish primarily a bright grey patina due to a thorough cleaning, with minimal trace of blue remaining. Markings remain clear, signs of handling wear and fine patches of pitting. Smooth checkering present to grips. Action needs adjustment. Lightly pitted bore.
