James J. Buswell Underhammer Percussion Boot Pistol.

Unserialized, .40 caliber, 12-inch octagonal barrel with fixed front and rear sights. Top of barrel marked: J. BUSWELL / GLENS FALLS. Scroll engraved upper tang. Underhammer percussion action. Hardwood one-piece grip. Blank shield escutcheon to top of grip. Bras panel to left side.
Sunburst grip cap. J. Buswell was a gunsmith from Glens Falls, New York, known for producing percussion firearms in the mid-19th century. While he also made long guns, one of his notable creations was a percussion single-shot pistol.

Condition: Very good. Finish primarily a bright grey patina with signs of handling wear, age and patches of pitting. Heavy cracks, dings and bruising present to wood. Trivial holes to back of the grip. Action will physically set with moving the trigger forward, but will need adjustment. Moderately pitted bore.
