Description

Polearm Weapon Marked C. VIGILIO.

Approximately 88-inches in overall length, 15-inch steel construction weapon with a hooked spearpoint semi-fleur-de-lis design. Marked C. VIGILIO. Together with a contemporary wooden shaft of 70-inches fastened to the metal by rawhide. Appears to be a more decorative piece overall with great character. Marking has not been authenticated. In researching, weapon appears similar in design to an Ancus, see page 9 [figure 15] on A Glossary of the Construction, Decoration and Use of Arms and Armor Book by Stone, for similar style, examples.

Condition: Good to very good. Metal with handling age wear. Light to moderate pitting and surface rust present. Edges sharpened at some point. Wooden shaft with wear and handling. Scuffs and minor splits. From the Sylver Schaller Collection.
