Description

Colt Single Action Army Revolver Delivered to Texas Senator and Business Leader Walter Ernest Tips. Accompanied by a Colt factory letter which states that it was one of two guns delivered directly to Tips at Austin, Texas, March 10, 1894. It is a .38/40 caliber, 4¾" barrel model with nickel finish as shipped from the factory, with original Colt grips. All serial numbers match. Retains 50% of nickel finish, rest smooth gray patina. Crisp, tight action, bore excellent.

Like many important Texans, Tips was a German immigrant who began in New Braunfels and went on to become the greatest wholesale and retail merchant in the state. He was involved in a wide range of civic enterprises, and is honored as a major and positive force in the development of Texas.
