Antebellum Slave Narrative Book. Rev. Noah Davis, Pastor of the Saratoga Street African Baptist Church of Baltimore wrote this popular slave narrative in 1859, the same year as John Brown's Raid at Harper's Ferry. It is titled: "A Narrative of the Life of Rev. Noah Davis, A Colored Man. Written by Himself, At the Age of Fifty-Four." It discusses his early life as a slave, apprenticeship as a shoe-maker, religious conversion and call to the pulpit, the purchase of his freedom and efforts to buy the freedom of his wife and three children. It measures 4.25" x 6.25" with green gilt-stamped cloth covers (wear at corners, slightly unhinged) and is 86 pages in length.Auction Info
