Field Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts VC. Steel Engraving after the Portrait by W. W. Ouless. This striking engraving was produced ca. 1912, from Ouless' painting depicting Roberts during the Second Afghan War 1878-1880, and published in Fitchett's The Tale of the Great Mutiny. Roberts, a British soldier, was one of the most successful commanders of the 19th century. Serving in the Indian rebellion, the Expedition to Abyssinia and the Second Anglo-Afghan War before leading British Forces to victory in the Second Boer War. This print measures approximately 35 x 26.5 inches. Scattered foxing and wear to margins, not affecting image. Very good.
