First edition, first printing. Association copy with inscription on half-title page, "For / Seton Miller / With my best / Raymond Chandler / October 19th 1943". Octavo. 216 pages.

Publisher's light green cloth with dark green titles. Recased with original cloth laid down. Upper corner of rear board renewed with a few small indentions and scratches around area. Mild soiling to boards. Minor abrading to top edge and upper corner of textblock in line with markings around renewed corner. Endpapers lightly toned. Fore-edge of page 213 with one-half-inch tear. Modest toning to pages. Occasional page with some light thumb soiling. Vivid dust jacket has toning to edges and spine. Minor wear to edges and extremities with modest paper loss to spine ends and corners. Toning to verso. Housed in a custom clamshell box by The Dragonfly Bindery. Very good.

Seton Miller was a friend and contemporary of Chandler's. He was the screenwriter of some of Hollywood's most successful and well known films, including, The Adventures of Robin Hood, "G" Men, The Sea Hawk, The Black Swan, Ministry of Fear, and Pete's Dragon. A fantastic association between two of Hollywood's best screenwriters.
