Smithers and illustrated by a series of seventy original illustrations reproduced from the original pictures in oils specially painted by Albert Letchford. London: H. S. Nichols, 1897.Illustrated Library Edition. Twelve octavo volumes. With seventy illustrations by Letchford inserted throughout.

One octavo volume. With seventy inserted plates by Letchford and twenty-one inserted plates by Laluze. Most with descriptive tissue guards.
Uniformly bound in publisher's full black cloth, front boards with elaborate Arabic lettering and design in gilt, rear boards with gilt-stamped Arabic writing, spines lettered in gilt. Some rubbing and moderate wear, several hinges cracked, volume of illustrations with binding loose and front board detached. Else, a good copy.
Commonly known as the most influential translation of the "Arabian Nights," Burton's translation had gone through many different printings before this one. The famous Letchford illustrations, are considered to be the best and most sympathetic to this translation.
