A Continuous Run of the First Fifty-Eight Numbers of The Annual Register
The Annual Register, or a View of the History of Politics, and Literature...For the Years 1758-1816. Sixty Volumes. London: Printed for J. Dodsley, and others, 1777-1817. A mixed set with various editions. Fifty-eight consecutively-numbered octavo volumes, plus two Index volumes (covering the years 1758-1792). Sixty volumes total. Set is uniformly bound, save for Volume 3 (for the year 1760). Double columns. Contemporary full leather bindings, with gilt rules and gilt-stamped red morocco labels to smooth spines. All bindings quite worn, with significant rubbing and scarring to boards and, particularly, to spines. Several of the early numbers with chipped headcaps. Many hinges weak or broken. Internally, all are very good, but taken as a whole, a good set.More Information:
An important historic record which includes all manner of contemporaneous letters, documents, etc. pertaining to the Seven Years' War (the French and Indian War in North America), the American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Napoleonic Wars, etc. With an early printing of the Declaration of Independence published for a British audience. The earliest numbers (1758-1765) written and edited by Edmund Burke. Publication of the Annual Register continues to this day.
